My little one has been sick for the past few days and it came out of nowhere! I hear a lot of parents say this and I honestly never saw this coming but I thought I would share what we did to survive the eye of the storm. One night Adriana got up and started to complain of stomach pain and soon after we had 24 hours of nausea and vomiting. Poor little one couldn't even keep down a sip of water. At this point me and dad were freaking out because everything was happening within minutes. She was too weak to lift her head up and her fever started to rocket. What did we do? We took her to the hospital. At the hospital they gave Adriana a pill that melted on the tongue to control her nausea and just settle her tummy (we did another pill like that the following day to help). They diagnosed Adriana with a 'Stomach Flu'! What were we recommended to do? Hydrate, hydrate, and hydrate! As well as, control fever.
Here is what we used to help our little one through this:
1) We used Paediatric Electrolytes to make sure she was always hydrated. Shoppers Drug Mart had a Life brand one in smaller bottles. It was apple flavoured and saved our lives! This made it easier, because Adriana loves apple juice.
2) We used Children's Tylenol to help control the fever. Every 6 hours.
3) We used Gravel Kids Liquid to help with the nausea and keep everything down.
In the mean time, she got lots of warm hugs and cuddles from both of us. After 24 hours we tried to offer her some bread and I made her some homemade vegetable broth soup with mini pasta noodles. Very simple and plain helped her keep everything down and even a spoonful was better than nothing in her tummy. During sleep we elevated her head just in case, and I wrapped her tummy with swaddle to keep her tummy warm. I would love to hear what anyone else does and if you recommend anything else we missed this time. It is flu season so it is good to know. We were lucky we had everything we needed during the crazy snow fall and it helped to stay indoors for the past few days. Hope this helps you in any way.
